Freiburg, Germany - A father and his 18-year-old son were handed lengthy sentences by a court in southern Germany on Monday for ambushing and killing an alleged rapist.

The state court in Freiburg found both men guilty and sentenced the 48-year-old father to life in jail. His son is to serve an eight-year prison term.
The younger defendant had admitted to killing the 27-year-old man, who allegedly raped his sister. As he was 17 years old at the time of the murder, he was facing a maximum of 10 years imprisonment under juvenile law.
The men stabbed the victim 23 times in his body, face and throat and he died from his injuries at the scene.
Police in the southern state of Baden-Wuerttemberg had previously released a search warrant for the alleged rapist. However, they were unable to find him before the family decided to take the law into its own hands, using social networks to locate the suspect.
Two other accomplices were given lighter custodial sentences; one 21-year-old for holding the victim down during the attack and a 19-year-old who helped in planning the ambush.
